Safety FAQ & Guidelines
Your safety and the safety of the pets you encounter are our top priorities. Please read these guidelines before attempting to secure a lost pet.
warning Crucial: Do Not Rush
When you see a lost dog or cat, do not rush at them. Take it easy. Always remember that a lost pet is likely disoriented, scared, and might react aggressively out of fear.
How should I approach a lost pet?
- Avoid direct eye contact, which can be perceived as a threat.
- Get down low to their level to appear less intimidating.
- Speak in a soft, calm, and reassuring voice.
- If you have strong-smelling food, toss it gently toward them to build trust.
- Let them come to you rather than chasing them.
What if the pet runs away?
Do not chase them! Chasing will only push them further away and closer to dangerous areas like busy roads. Instead, note the direction they ran, their physical condition, and report the sighting immediately on fatsa.pet.
When should I contact local authorities?
If the animal is behaving aggressively, is injured, or is in a dangerous location (like a highway), do not attempt to capture them yourself. Contact your local animal control or police non-emergency line for professional assistance.
