Privacy Policy
Last Updated: July 2026Welcome to fatsa.pet, the community lost-and-found platform for pets. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Who we are
fatsa.pet is operated by Kyriakos Poyias and Maria Prodromou, based in Cyprus, who are the joint data controllers for the personal data described in this policy. For anything related to your data, contact help@fatsa.pet.
2. What we collect
We only collect what the service needs to reunite pets:
- Account — your phone number (used to sign in), your name, and optionally your home area and address.
- Pet profiles — your pets’ details (including an optional microchip number) and the photos you upload.
- Lost & found reports — the sighting location, date and time, a description, photos, and an optional contact phone number. Found-pet reports can also be submitted without an account, in which case we store the contact details the finder chooses to share.
- Community activity — comments, comment photos, and likes on alerts.
- Notifications — your notification preferences and your device’s push token, so alerts can reach you.
We use no advertising, no analytics, and no cross-app tracking of any kind.
3. Why we use it and on what legal basis
We process your data on the following legal bases:
- To operate the service — creating your account, hosting your pet profiles and reports, and matching lost pets with found reports (performance of a contract).
- To show alerts to community members near a sighting (performance of a contract and our legitimate interest in reuniting pets).
- To send push notifications — only with your consent, given through your device’s notification permission; you can withdraw it at any time in your device settings.
- To process found-pet reports submitted by guests (our legitimate interest in reuniting pets with their families).
- To comply with legal obligations where applicable.
4. AI photo matching
When you upload pet photos, they are processed by Google Vertex AI (in the EU) to compute a visual signature and a short description of the pet. These are used solely to suggest possible matches between lost and found reports. Suggestions are always advisory — a human decides; we make no automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.
5. What is visible to others
Fatsa is a community platform: lost and found alerts — including pet photos, the description, the sighting area, and the time — are visible to other users by design, so the community can help. Your phone number is never shown unless you explicitly enable the share options on your profile, a pet, or a report.
6. Where your data lives
Your data is stored on Google Cloud and Firebase in the European Union (region europe-west3, Frankfurt, Germany). Processing by Google is governed by the Google Cloud Data Processing Addendum, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
7. Service providers
We use the following providers as processors: Google Cloud (hosting, database, file storage), Google Firebase (sign-in and push notifications), Google Maps (map display), and Google Vertex AI (photo matching). We do not sell your personal data, and we never share it with advertisers.
8. Retention and deletion
We keep your content only for as long as you keep it: deleting a photo, pet, or report removes it. Deleting your account (Profile → Delete account in the app) permanently removes everything — your profile, pets, reports, photos, comments, notification tokens, and your sign-in account itself.
Residual copies may persist in our encrypted backups for up to 35 days before being overwritten. You can also request deletion by email at help@fatsa.pet.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, and receive a copy of your personal data, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time (for example by disabling notifications). To exercise any of these rights, contact us — we respond within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection (Cyprus): dataprotection.gov.cy.
10. Children
Fatsa accounts are for users aged 16 and over. The service is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
11. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we will update it here and revise the date at the top. For material changes we will also let you know in the app.
